Holiday Activity: Homemade Treats to Share with Neighbors

Amid all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it’s important that we remember to take time to spread cheer to those around us. Whether that be your neighbor, classmate, co-worker, or even a stranger, giving fresh baked holiday treats is a great way to spread the love. The 3 homemade treat ideas below are sure to be a hit with anyone that receives them:

Quick Breads. This kind of bread can be prepared quickly and reliably, and they don’t require tons of time or lots of skill (like traditional yeast breads do). Here are some healthy recipes we love:

Chocolate Chip Zucchini Bread , Whole Wheat Banana Bread , Healthy Pumpkin Quick Bread

Treats in a Jar. This one’s great because it doesn’t require an oven, making it the perfect hands-on activity for younger kids. Decorate some mason jars and fill them with any of the following (dry ingredients only):

Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix , Whole Wheat Pancake Mix , Chia Seed Strawberry Jam

Decorated Cookies. Grab some plain sugar cookies (you can make your own or buy them pre-baked), festive icing, and sprinkles. Let your kiddos creativity run wild while decorating each cookie. Not only is this a fun project for the whole family, but whoever receives this gift will appreciate the time and effort that went into each cookie!

Once the holiday goodies are complete, hit the streets to share the holiday cheer with your neighbors. Be sure to let your little ones come along, so they can see all the appreciation for their hard work!
